The barrington

The Barrington sits on a triangular site adjacent to the Grey Lynn shops with street frontages on Great North Road and Barrington Road. The site required an innovative response by architect Paul Brown & Associates to bridge between the low rise retail units to the east and the residential cul-de-sac to the west.

Completed in 2017, this boutique development features two small blocks of 8 luxury townhouses with ground floor retail on Great North Road. Hanging gardens, a communal outdoor social space and a pedestrian access way promote greater site permeability and opportunities for social interaction.

The Saint

Located on St Benedict’s Street,  in Eden Terrace, The Saint is a development of 20 apartments completed in 2016. Designed by Paul Brown & Associates, the building architecture draws from the eclectic surroundings of heritage buildings, character homes, modern developments and the St Benedict’s Church.

The glass-reinforced concrete screen – which addresses the street and creates privacy for  occupants – was inspired by the stained glass windows of nearby church. The brick panelling pays homage to the district’s brick-making history, while the gabion wall, natural concrete and raw steel give an industrial look fitting of the mixed-use neighbourhood.
